Why is it such a big deal to send your picture to a bot?

OK, so I go on craigslist and have recently been reading how these "bots" try and get pictures and information on you. But I don't understand why they want it. It's not like we are talking about cc info or anything. Please explain because I am sure that I am being too trusting or something.
