I'm being "pressured" to go to college?

I'm not sure if I even want to pursue any other higher education. The only thing that interests me is auto mechanics but I tend to forget many small details. My teacher is telling me I HAVE to go to college because I'll be doomed to work minimum wage if I don't. But with this terrible economy I wouldn't want to leave school in debt since many college graduates are having trouble finding work. This goes for people with good degrees and not just the useless liberal arts ones, philosophy, etc. If I were to work minimum wage I'd at least be free from debt. I'm being faced with a litany of paperwork should I decide to go to college and I have only 2-3 months to decide. It sucks that there are no decent jobs that don't require college anymore. It seems like I have to plunge into college debt if I want to earn a decent wage now.
